About Rocky Road – History, Amenities, Community and More

Rocky Ford was founded and named by explorer Kit Carson, who came across a shallow crossing in the Arkansas River, filled with rocks and boulders, near the town and thus, named it Rocky Ford. Two travelers decided to adopt the name and set up a small general store to the travelers' needs, and soon, the town grew. 

Currently, the town has a population of around 4,000, and even though it is no longer situated in the place it was initially set up in 1871, the name Rocky Ford stuck.
