NO CLUTTER AND CONGESTION.
Get rid old newspapers and magazines. Pack up most of your small items like figurines and other trinkets. Place clothing that won’t be used soon elsewhere to make closets seem roomier. De-congest the garage and clear it out. Buyers like to picture their things in the house and that is difficult to do when the home is full of clutter. The emptier the better.
CLEAN YOUR WINDOWS AND SCREENS.
Clear windows let more light into the interior. Dirty windows are a turn off for buyers.
MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS EXTRA CLEAN
Clean fingerprints and dirt from light switch plates. Wash the floors, stove, refrigerator, washer and dryer enough to rid them of any dirt. A clean and tidy house makes a better first impression and tells buyers that the home has been well cared for. CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN!
REPLACE OLD BULBS WITH BRIGHTER BULBS.
Bright lights make rooms appear bigger especially dark rooms. Replace any burnt-out bulbs with ones that produce a comfortable light. Turn all lights on before buyers come to look at the home.
MAKE ALL MINOR REPAIRS THAT YOU CAN.
Everything that isn’t repaired that could have been repaired will show up in the home inspection and can create a bad impression. Small issues such as sticky doors, ripped screens, split caulking, cracked receptacle covers or a leaky faucet may seem minor, but they'll give buyers the impression that the house isn't well taken care of.
AIM FOR GOOD CURB APPEAL.
Clean up the front yard, groom grass, rake any leaves, trim the bushes, and edge the sidewalks. Place a couple of bright potted flowers near the entryway to brighten things up and get the buyers attention.
FILL HOLES IN YOUR DRIVEWAY.
Take care of any holes and cracks in your driveway and reapply sealant, if necessary.
CLEAR OUT DIRTY GUTTERS.
Make sure gutter are clear and de-congested.
CLEAN OR REPLACE YOUR FRONT DOOR KNOB AND ADDRESS NUMBERS.
A clean door and front entrance of the home will create a good first impression for buyers upon arrival.
RID YOUR HOME OF SMELLS.
Try to rid the air in the home of any strong smells. Clean carpeting and drapes, get rid of cooking odors, any smoke, and unpleasant pet odors. If carpets are old and need replacing, it is worth it for you to replace them. The additional price you would get for your house will most likely outweigh the money you paid for this maintenance. Open the windows and let fresh air in. The number one turn off to a potential buyer is a nasty odor.
